2017 Trek - Day 4 - June 9

Theme: God’s Love for us
Good morning! Today will be spent in camp. Some of the time the youth will be doing fun things, like playing games and being with their families, but a good portion will be spent on what we are calling the Advocate Experience.

President Mark Sabey will speak with our youth about the Advocate and the Accuser, trying to share with our youth the love that Christ, our advocate, has for them and all of us.
The youth will spend some time today alone, thinking about their experiences on Trek and what they’ve learned, how they’ve grown, and reflect on what good things Christ may see in them. It is a time to reflect on Humility, Zion, Grace and the Love of God, our main four core doctrines. It is a chance for our Mas and Pas to reflect on the strengths of the kids that were in their families and for all to share with one another.
While it is not as physically demanding, the day will allow Trek families to share their experiences and ponder them in their hearts. That evening we will have a testimony meeting, allowing those who desire to share their testimonies.
Things you can do today:
  • Listen or watch “Then Jesus Beholding Him Loved Him” by Elder S. Mark Palmer and ponder how Christ looks at us and tries to see us as we can be, with our potential and our best qualities. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2017/04/then-jesus-beholding-him-loved-him?lang=eng
  • Think about your children, or family members. If you had to defend them, what are some of the strengths they have, things you admire? Even when someone disappoints us, or is making choices we disagree with, is there a way you can ‘behold them’ and love them for the good things they do? Write a note to someone, your children, a friend, a spouse, or others who you see attributes that maybe they themselves have not yet identified. Point out those strengths out and express your love for them.
  • Take time to view yourself as the Savior would view you. Make a list of strengths you think you might have and journal them. Express gratitude in prayer for those gifts you have and pray and strive to see the strengths in others around you for an entire day.

  • Parents of Trekkers: Make a list of the gifts and strengths of your child. Think of things that would make you be their advocate. Be prepared to share those things, perhaps in a letter you have ready when they get home.
